Nazaré Álvares was born in Minas da Borralha, Montalegre, in 1965, and lives in Porto, where she graduated in Fine Arts–Painting from the Faculty of Fine Arts (FBAUP) in 1988. She has exhibited regularly since 1994, with solo shows at galleries including Galeria Alvarez - with whom she collaborated until 2012, showing at fairs such as Art Cologne and Arte Lisboa - as well as Por Amor à Arte, Baganha/Cor Espontânea, and Michael Schultz in Berlin and Dresden.
Recent solo exhibitions include Gravidade e(m) Suspensão (2026, Casa da Cultura de Paredes) and Tropeçou no Céu (2025, Galeria Serpente), alongside two curated by writer Valter Hugo Mãe in 2023: Guerra do Nunca, at the V Gaia International Art Biennial, and Sou Esta Talvez Outra Que Eu Decida, at Porto's MMIPO museum. Her work has also featured in numerous group exhibitions, including at the Museu Nacional de Soares dos Reis and the University of Porto's Rectory.
